Boat Hire
Where Can I Hire a Boat
Boat hire is available in many exotic locations throughout the world. If however you are on a bit of a budget and the Caribbean simply is not an option then there are plenty of places around the UK where you can easily get yourself off of dry land without spending a fortune. Everyone has their favourite places of course but in my opinion, the two best places to hire a boat in the UK are Norfolk and London. The Norfolk Broads is the best place in the UK to hire a boat if you want to escape into the countryside for a week or two. The River Thames on the other hand is perfect should you fancy something a little bit more urban.
Broads Boat Hire
If you head down to Norfolk, there are many boat hire options available to you. You can start your holiday in any number of locations; the most popular boat yards are located in Wroxham, Hickling, Brundall and Horning. There are various nature reserves in this area of the UK and a vast network of waterways ensuring that you can move around constantly over a period of a week or two and not run out of places to go and things to see. The countryside in this part of the UK is pretty difficult to beat and I have spent many quite mornings drifting aimlessly along the river, drinking my morning coffee and watching the world go by at a leisurely three miles an hour. There is also a very strong selection of country pubs and restaurants that provide good food and service at reasonable prices. If you are from a big city, you are likely to be surprised at just how different the pace is in Norfolk. It is almost like being in a different country.
Thames Boat Hire
If you are not that much of a nature lover, hiring a boat and floating along the River Thames remains a popular past time. Being London, there is of course an endless selection of things to see and do. Should you only want to visit areas that are particularly close to the Thames, there are many options available to you. For a start, Thorpe Park, one of London's premier theme parks is very close by, with its frankly terrifying roller coasters. For something a little more respectable there is Hampton Court Palace which is famous for its spectacular Grand Hall. Windsor Castle is also close to the Thames and most people are already aware what it is famous for. And if you happen to tire from all the sight seeing, there is an endless selection of riverside cafes where you can put your feet up for a while and watch the world go by.
So in conclusion, if you are wondering where to hire a boat in the UK then I can personally recommend both London and Norfolk. I personally prefer Norfolk, but the Thames is definitely not without its charms.
